Submitted stories can explore a wide range of experiences, from personal narratives to broader community themes. The book will provide unique insight into the lives and culture of the first waves of Vietnamese immigrants who made their home in Kentucky.

Format

Stories may be submitted in English, Vietnamese, or both. A team of volunteers will provide the necessary editing and translations so that all published stories are bilingual.

Each story can be presented as a written article, poem, song, photo essay, or any combination thereof. Since every story is considered its own chapter, it may include several parts but must not be divided into multiple chapters. To accommodate the many stories expected in the book, each story is limited to around 4,000 words.

Story Scope

Submitted stories can explore a wide range of experiences, from personal narratives to broader community themes. The key focus should be on providing valuable insights into:

  • Life in Vietnam during and after the war: Personal accounts of everyday life, capturing the realities of living through the Vietnam War and navigating post-war challenges.
  • Journey to America: Experiences of escape, migration, and resettlement.
  • Rebuilding lives and families in Kentucky: Adapting to a new culture, establishing businesses, contributing to the community, and preserving cultural traditions.

    Contributor Certification & License Agreement

    By checking the box below and submitting my story (the “Submission”) to the Vietnamese Community of Louisville, Inc. and Moving Voices (together, the “Organizations”), I acknowledge, represent, and agree that:

    1. Authorship & Originality

      • I am the sole author and owner of all rights in the Submission.

      • The Submission is wholly original and has never been previously published in any form.

      • No part of the Submission infringes, misappropriates, or otherwise violates any copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other right of any third party.

    2. Responsibility for Claims

      • I am solely responsible for any claim, loss, or liability (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from or related to the Submission.

      • I agree to indemnify and hold the Organizations harmless from any such claims.

    3. License to the Organizations

      • I grant the Organizations, and their successors, assigns, and licensees, a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to use, reproduce, publish, display, perform, adapt, edit, translate, distribute, and create derivative works from the Submission, in whole or in part, in any format or medium now known or later developed, including (but not limited to) the printed or digital book and any promotional, educational, or archival materials related thereto.

    4. Retention of Rights

      • I retain full ownership of the Submission and remain free to publish, license, or otherwise exploit it elsewhere without restriction.

    5. Acceptance of Terms

      • I have read, understand, and agree to all the above terms. My checking of the box below constitutes my legally binding electronic signature to this Agreement.
